Services for Clients in Mid Life

Mid life is a time when clients are under pressure financially, often having to contend with the cost of a large mortgage and other personal or business borrowing as well as the cost of private or further education fees.

Typically our clients in mid life enjoy a high level of income but seldom take time to consider a strategy for making the most of their income. Such clients are often too busy to consider some of the significant risks to their lifestyle presented by untimely death, a serious accident or illness, or the onset of a critical illness.

Mid life clients typically have a rather eclectic collection of financial arrangements and frequently haven’t made wills, don’t have powers of attorney in place, haven’t made use of trusts for their life assurance or pension death benefits, and lack any form of plan to build up savings and to provide for their eventual retirement.

Our Financial Planners are experienced at dealing with clients in mid life and will often encourage their clients to carry out an analysis of their expenditure, with a view to identifying scope for reducing outgoings or redirecting expenditure.

Our team of retirement planning specialists help clients to consider the following issues:

  • How to reduce the cost of borrowing by ‘re-broking’ existing mortgage, credit card or loan facilities
  • Should any existing endowment policies be kept, sold, or surrendered?
  • How to reduce the cost of protection policies (or increase the level of benefit) by re- broking existing arrangements
  • How to mitigate, the financial impact of unexpected death, serious accident, prolonged ill health, or the onset of a critical illness
  • The need to put in place a will, to appoint guardians for dependent children and to put in place powers of attorney, to cover the onset of ill health or incapacity
  • How to replace the family’s income in case of death, prolonged illness, or incapacity
  • How to save on a regular basis, tax efficiently and with flexibility and access
  • How to plan for retirement, how much to save and where to save it
  • What steps can be taken to mitigate a client’s estate’s potential liability to inheritance tax?

Our Approach

We provide clients with a report which identifies the relevant issues relating to clients in mid life and the specific issues that the client will need to address, in order to maximise their position, both initially and on an ongoing basis. The report will include detailed recommendations, where appropriate.
