Services for Recipients of Compensation Awards

Relatively large awards resulting from a Personal Injury or Clinical Negligence action generally happen because the recipient has suffered a life changing injury. The award is likely to represent the recipient’s main source of income or capital for the rest of their lives. However, as most cases are settled on the basis of compromise, the sum awarded may fall short of the amount which is needed to fully meet the recipient’s needs.

Our Approach

We aim to provide our clients with a lifetime Financial Plan which covers:

  • Short term liquidity, making sure cash is available to meet any one-off capital expenditure and regular expenses as required
  • Protection of State Benefit entitlement and assistance with claiming benefits as required
  • Structuring any annuity or investment portfolio to achieve a balance between the required investment return, an appropriate level of investment risk, tax and cost efficiency
  • A programme of regular reviews to keep the strategy on track

It may also be very important to make best use of tax allowances and keep costs down. The investment strategy is also crucial and, although it may be necessary to accept investment risk to have any chance of achieving the returns required to assure financial security for life, it is equally important to manage risks and liquidity very carefully.
